New My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) Program Guidance

Today, OSD has announced the new My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) Program Guidance and a re-opening date of October 25, 2010. Significant changes have been made to eligibility, benefit and fiscal year cap, time-limit, and programs of study. These new guidelines reflect a return to the original purpose of the program – to assist spouses of service members achieve portable careers. These changes also align the program with responsible fiscal planning by the Defense Department to help sustain the program.

New Financial Assistance Guidelines

* The program is available to spouses of active duty service members in pay grades E1-E5, W1-W2, and O1-O2.
* The maximum financial benefit will be $4,000 with a fiscal year cap of $2,000. Waivers will be available for spouses pursuing licensure or certification up to the total maximum assistance of $4,000.
* Military spouses will be required to finish their program of study within three years from the start date of the first course.
* The program is limited to associate degrees, certification and licensures.
* Effective immediately, National Guard & Reserve members must be on active duty for their spouses to receive the MyCAA benefit.

Spouses who currently have an active account will be allowed to request financial assistance until Thursday, October 21, 2010. Beginning September 1, 2010, spouses may request financial assistance for classes that have a start date up to January 15, 2011. To ensure adequate time to plan for courses, no career plans will be accepted after August 31, 2010. All currently approved financial assistance documents will be honored.

The program will be closed from Friday, October 22nd to Monday, October 25th so that we may ensure the infrastructure is in place to implement the new program.

Monroe County American Red Cross Seeking People

The Monroe County American Red Cross is looking for two full-time candidates to fill program positions this fall: one is an Americorps volunteer to fill 1-yr assignment in disaster services; one is for an intern to coordinate Basic Aid Training program in elementary schools in Monroe/Owen. The Americorps position includes a stipend of $11,800 annually, given to the member monthly. At the end of the year, s/he gets an education award of $5350; and health insurance coverage.

There is a company looking to hire former military for positions in the middle-east. They are currently recruiting for about 20 positions. These are civilian positions that pay up to 150k per year.


Customer Service Support Engineer (Field Service Engineer)


Positions in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Qatar

Rapiscan Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of OSI Systems, Inc. designs, manufactures and markets security and inspection systems worldwide. Our products are used to inspect baggage, cargo, people, vehicles and other objects for weapons, explosives, drugs and other contraband. Rapiscan Systems security and inspection devices can be found in a wide range of locations such as, airports, border crossings, railway stations, sea ports and
terminals, government and military installations and nuclear facilities.

Must be willing to relocate to Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar or Afghanistan for at least one year.

MUST be a U.S. CITIZEN to be considered for the position (cannot be
dual citizen).

MUST have current SECURITY CLEARANCE - Issued by Department of
Defense.

MUST have current a US passport.

MUST have prior experience working in the middle-east or another
war zone country.

Under limited supervision, performs moderately complex electronic technical functions related to production test, checkout, fabrication,
modification, and assembly of electronic and Electro-mechanical systems.

Applications may include analog, digital, and or video type circuits and
logic systems. Guidance is usually available from superiors.

Works from limited documentation, schematics, diagrams, notes,production prints and layouts.

Able to troubleshoot computer hardware problems, update software
configurations from written instructions or with guidance from superiors over the phone.

Understand basic computer networking terminology and be able to perform basic network troubleshooting.

Performs operational/ functional tests, troubleshoots and debugs
assemblies, subassemblies, and systems to isolate faults and determine remedies for malfunctions.

Sets up specialized test equipment for checkout of non-routine assemblies and systems.

Utilizes normal and specialized manufacturing test or diagnostic
equipment including oscilloscopes, VOM, DVM, signal generators and similar test apparatus.

Prepares diagnostic tests and assists in the design, construction,
test and checkout of complex test equipment and test procedure development.

Utilizes a wide variety of developmental/manufacturing test or diagnostic equipment to check out, test, and troubleshoot complex or complete
systems.

Normally assigned to areas such as fabrication, production test,system checkout, quality control, or the like.
