Health Net tops Most Military Spouse Friendly Employers
Health Net tops Most Military Spouse Friendly Employers list May 7, 2008
Ranked number one out of nearly 2,500 companies
Health Net tops the list of America's Most Military Spouse Friendly Employers, according to the June 2008 issue of Military Spouse magazine.
The second annual list is a "who's who" of large corporations that have made the greatest effort and have had the greatest success in hiring the spouses of military troops. Health Net ranked number one out of nearly 2,500 companies, each with an annual revenue exceeding $1 billion, considered for the honor.
"The selection was based on company policies for spouses who are married to a member of the U.S. Armed Forces, including Guard and Reserve, as well as hiring policies and practices with respect to military spouses," says Sheila Riordan, manager, Staffing Consulting, Health Net, Inc.
"Many of these spouses learn about Health Net through the health services provided them through our HNFS TRICARE North contract," notes James Emanuel, manager, Staffing Consulting, Health Net, Inc. "What better potential associates than those who already are familiar with our services?"
"Companies have historically underutilized a talent pool of 1.1 million military spouses, largely because they have been viewed as a group that relocates often," says Babette Maxwell, co-founder and executive editor of Military Spouse. "But technology now enables employees to work remotely, reducing or eliminating the obstacles historically associated with frequent relocation."
Military Spouse general manager Rich McCormack adds, "Military spouses, 93 percent of whom are women, are educated, incredibly loyal and very hard-working. They are patriots who give 110 percent to companies that hire them."
Health Net also supports as well as recruits military spouses, having established a scholarship fund administered through National Military Family Association (NMFA) for deserving TRICARE North spouses who apply.
The scholarship reflects Health Net's desire to continue to find meaningful ways to serve and support military families.
"Veterans, retired service members and spouses of active duty service members make up an important part of Health Net," says Riordan.
