Maumee Scout Reservation Summer Camp Staff Openings

REQUIREMENTS • Must be at least 21 years of age CAMP COMMISSIONER • Must be registered with the Boy Scouts of America • Must be familiar with Boy Scouts Guidelines/Policies • Must have successfully completed the Commissioner Section of National Camping School within the past five years • Must live on site • Must be able to lift 40 pounds to their chest • Must be able to travel to all parts of the camp over rough terrain and unimproved trails by foot • Must possess sound interpersonal communication and leadership skills • Good Judgment • Ability to teach and lead • Ability to work with youth and adults JOB DESCRIPTION The Camp Commissioner is at the pulse of the camp. He/she is the liaison between the units and unit leadership and the camp and camp staff. He/she helps units be more effective in delivering the Scouting program to their youth both while in camp and when they get home. Directly supervises Guest Commissioners and coordinates with Professional Staff Commissioners. Reports to the Camp Director. SPECIFIC DUTIES • Assists Troops and Packs in making their camp program effective • Encourage camping and the use of the patrol method within troops • Builds spirit and enthusiasm throughout the camp. • Assigns Campsite Hosts to units in camp • Directs and supervises all inter-unit activities • Maintains frequent contact and good relationships with units and their leaders • Chairs the daily Leaders Roundtable Meetings and adult training sessions • Serves as primary adviser to the Camp Senior Patrol Leaders Council and attends daily meetings • Meets daily with the Camp Director, Program Director, Operations and Camp Ranger to prioritize support requirements • Oversees daily campsite Inspections by unit leadership and Campsite Hosts • Performs Performance Appraisals on unit effectiveness • Is thoroughly aware of Camp Emergency Procedures • Observes and enforces all aspects of Youth Protection Guidelines • Writes a final program report on Commissioner service at the end of camp • Attends Management Team meetings • Attends Directors Meetings • Attends Staff Meetings • Other duties as requiredREQUIREMENTS • Must be at least 21 years of age FIRST AID DIRECTOR • Must be registered with the Boy Scouts of America • Must be approved by the Council Physician • Must live on site • Must have current certification in American Red Cross (or equivalent) CPR • Must be a licensed MD, RN, LPN, Physician’s Assistant, EMT, Paramedic or Medical Student • Must be able to respond to emergencies within one mile of the First Aid Station. Must be able to travel over rough terrain and unimproved trails by foot • Must be able to lift 40 pounds to their chest • Other duties as required • Good Judgment • Ability to teach and lead • Ability to work with youth and adults JOB DESCRIPTION Supervises the health and safety practices in camp. Provides care for all medical situations in camp, both serious and non-serious. Follows the Standing Orders of the Camp Physician. Maintains First Aid Logs. Determines seriousness of medical situations and provides recommendations on treatment and transportation. Supervises the educational programs related to health. Reports to the Operations Director in matters of health and safety and to the Program Director in matters of program. SPECIFIC DUTIES • Administers first aid as required • Performs medical reviews on arriving campers • Files, maintains and documents medical files for campers • Accompanies patients to medical facilities when emergency transportation may take too long • Must be familiar with Camp Emergency Procedures and phone numbers • Is familiar with and obeys the Standing Orders of the physician • Calls for assistance of ambulance or Lifeline Helicopter as needed • Maintain a clean and healthy area for sick campers • Adequately disposes of used medical supplies • Instructs in First Aid and CPR • Attends Directors Meetings • Attends Staff Meetings • Other duties as required REQUIREMENTS • Must be at least 21 years old FOOD SERVICE DIRECTOR (HEAD COOK) • Must be registered with the Boy Scouts of America • Must live on site • Must be able to lift 40 pounds to their chest • Must have ability to count and perform basic math and accounting • Must be able to place orders of food • Must be able to manage other people well • Must have analytical mind and work for efficiency • Good Judgment • Ability to teach and lead • Ability to work with youth and adults JOB DESCRIPTION Responsible for the entire food ordering, preparation, serving, eating, dishwashing, and kitchen clean -up operation. Work with Operations Director on placing food orders within budget. Work with Ranger on maintenance issues and problems. Supervise Food Service Staff to work efficiently in an enjoyable atmosphere. Goals are to see that all campers, adults, and staff have 3 good meals per day, “cooked” properly, and served on time. We strive to establish the reputation for serving “great food at Maumee Scout Reservation.” Ensure all foods are prepared in a clean and effective manner. Keeps the kitchen and dining area clean and organized at all times. Ensures all food is prepared and ready to eat at prescribed times. Disp oses of garbage as required. Does daily Hot & Cold Checks on equipment and freezers. Reports to the Operations Director. SPECIFIC DUTIES • Primarily responsible for food preparation, cooking, and cleaning cooking utensils, pots, pans and cooking equipment. • Maintain a daily inventory of food • Prepare a list of food items, and other supply items, for our vendors • Maintain the accurate daily recording of the temperature charts on refrigerators, freezers, and warmers • Instructs, trains, counsels and disciplines subordinates as required • Perform weekly Dining Hall Orientation upon unit check-in • Writes a final report for the kitchen/dining hall at end of camp • Writes performance appraisals for subordinates • Trains all assistants on Camp Emergency Procedures • Receipts for, controls and inventories Kitchen Inventories • Reports all accidents to First Aid Director • Ensures Dining Hall and Kitchen are safe and clean • Attends Directors Meetings • Attends Staff Meetings • Other duties as required REQUIREMENTS • Must be at least 21 years old AQUATICS DIRECTOR • Must be registered with the Boy Scouts of America • Must have successfully completed the Aquatics Section of National Camping School within the past five years • Must live on site • Must be American Red Cross (or equivalent) CPR certified • Must be able to lift 40 pounds to their chest • Must be able to travel to remote parts of the camp over rough terrain and unimproved trails by foot • Must have a thorough knowledge of swimming techniques • Must be able to visually observe the swimming area at all times • Must be able to hear cries for help and respond accordingly • Must be able to verbally sound the alarm and summon others for help • Good Judgment • Ability to teach and lead • Ability to work with youth and adults JOB DESCRIPTION Supervises the activities around the swimming pool and other camp -related waterfront areas. Responsible for administering the camp aquatics program according to BSA policies, training and supervising the Aquatics Staff, maintaining equipment and facil ities with the assistance of the Camp Ranger, maintaining advancement standards, supervising the instruction, free swims, and other aquatic activities. Must be able to determine when an area is safe to swim in. Reports to the Program Director SPECIFIC DUTIES • Instructs, trains, counsels and disciplines subordinates as required • Writes, edits, approves and implements lesson plans • Categorizes campers into ability groups • Is current in first aid and lifesaving techniques • Ensures all Merit Badges can be completed even in inclement weather • Signs all completed Merit Badge Applications • Initials all incomplete tracking sheets • Sets up, manages, tears down, and inventories program area and supplies • Monitors chlorine level in the swimming pool • Performs Performance Appraisals on subordinates • Attends meetings chaired by the Camp and Program Directors • Reports all accidents to the First Aid Director • Trains all assistants in Camp Emergency Procedures • Writes a Final Report when camp ends • Enforces all aspects of Youth Protection Guidelines • Performs Service and Program Patrol duties as needed • Attends Directors Meetings • Attends Staff Meetings • Other duties as required REQUIREMENTS • Must be at least 21 years old HIGH ADVENTURE DIRECTOR • Must be registered with the Boy Scouts of America • Must have successfully completed the Trek Leader Section of National Camping School • Must live on the trail for 5 days at a time • Must be accompanied by another adult at least 18 years old • Must be able to lift 40 pounds to their chest • Must be able to travel great distances over rough terrain and unimproved trails by foot • Must be physically fit for backpacking and hiking • Must be American Red Cross (or equivalent) CPR certified • Must have a thorough knowledge of compass and map reading • Good Judgment • Ability to teach and lead • Ability to work with youth and adults JOB DESCRIPTION Takes up to 8 participants at a time into the Pecos Wilderness. Develop routes and determines food and equipment requirement s. Should have excellent first aid and wilderness survival skills. Reports to the Camp Director. SPECIFIC DUTIES • Instructs, trains, counsels and disciplines subordinates as required • Prepares Trip Itineraries and Reports for Forest Service • Provide guidance to participants in assigned program • Adheres to Leave No Trace guidelines • Ensures all campers have a valid Fishing License if fishing is to occur during the trip • Makes daily radio contact with Backcountry Guides to verify location and health of the campers • Orders all required equipment through the Camp Director • Receipts for, manages, inventories and controls all program supplies • Does a Performance Appraisal on the Backcountry Guides • Signs off any merit badges earned on the trip • Initials all tracking sheets for incomplete merit badges • Inventories all equipment at season’s end and informs the Camp Ranger of equipment needing repairs or replacement • Writes a Final Report on the trip and addresses improvement areas • Coordinates and makes reservations with outside program vendors • Attends Directors Meetings • Attends Staff Meetings • Other duties as required REQUIREMENTS SUPPORT STAFF – FOOD SERVICE • Must be at least 16, preferably 17 years old • Must live on site • Must be able to lift 40 pounds to their chest • Must be able to get to the Dining Hall over rough terrain and unimproved trails by foot • Must have knowledge of kitchen equipment • Prepares food for 250 campers and staff 3 times daily • Disposes of garbage as needed • Knows Camp Emergency Procedures • Reports all accidents to the First Aid Director • Enforces all Youth Protection Guidelines • Good Judgment JOB DESCRIPTION Ensure all foods are prepared in a clean and effective manner.
