PROGRAM: HOOSIER YOUTH CHALLENGE ACADEMY, Knightstown

POSITION:
CADRE SHIFT SUPERVISOR (10002037, Job ID # 571112)

SALARY: $15.18. hour; $1,139 bi-weekly: $29,614.00 annually.

Purpose of Position/Summary:
The mission of the Hoosier Youth ChalleNGe Academy (HYCA) is to intervene in and reclaim the lives of at-risk youth to produce program graduates with the values, skills, education and self-discipline necessary to succeed as adults. This program provides military based training, including supervised work experience in community service and conservation programs, to civilian youth who cease to attend secondary school before graduating so as to improve their life skills and employment potential.
The Hoosier Youth Challenge Academy (HYCA) Shift Supervisor is responsible for the training and supervision of all Team Leaders on duty during his/her shift. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for compiling all reports required and supervises the execution of the Cadet daily schedules.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Train, supervise and counsel all Team Leaders assigned to the team (4-6 Team Leaders).
• Collect, compile and distribute information for weekly training schedule and ensure that all operational activities and academic classes conducted by Team Leaders designated on the HYCA training schedule are accomplished during the shift.
• Assist Team Leaders in the performance of their daily duties.
• Ensure that the Standards of Discipline are upheld. Provide limited first-line Team Leader and second-line student counseling to improve performance, reduce friction, improve morale and maintain continuity.
• Keep the HYCA Chain of Command informed of all important matters.
• Ensure that record keeping, including automated data information system, is accomplished in accordance with the HYCA Standard Operating Procedures.
• Ensure Cadets are transported between locations such as: formations, physical training, classrooms, community service, dining hall, field trips; and, transport Cadets for medical treatment, as needed.
• Responsible for ensuring that Cadets barracks, common areas and living conditions are properly maintained in accordance with established standards and coordinates all scheduling, housekeeping and administrative activities;
• Ensure the safety of all HYCA personnel and staff members during the shift.
• Analyze and evaluate the progress and development of assigned Cadets and present verbal and written reports.
• Supervises day-to-day counseling program.
• Maintains an on-call status to provide counseling assistance and advisement.
Nonessential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Performs related work as determined required.



Working Conditions:
Incumbent may infrequently be exposed to aggressive/hostile at-risk youths and/or upset parents/guardians. May frequently work a nonstandard work week (which may require rotation between day, evening and graveyard shift, and may include weekends and holidays). Work is frequently outdoors subject to inclement weather and other environmental conditions.
