POSITION: CADRE SHIFT SUPERVISOR (10060630, Job ID # 581368)
SALARY: $15.42 hour; $1,157.00 bi-weekly: $30,082.00 annually.
Purpose of Position/Summary:
The mission of the Hoosier Youth ChalleNGe Academy (HYCA) is to intervene in and reclaim
the lives of at-risk youth to produce program graduates with the values, skills, education and self-discipline necessary to succeed as adults. This program provides
military based training, including supervised work experience in community service and conservation programs, to civilian youth who cease to attend secondary school before graduating so as to improve their life skills and employment potential.
The Hoosier Youth Challenge Academy (HYCA) Shift Supervisor is responsible for the training and supervision of all Team Leaders on duty during his/her shift. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for compiling all reports required and supervises the execution of the Cadet daily schedules.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
· Train, supervise all Team Leaders assigned to the team (4-6 Team Leaders).
· Collect, compile and distribute information for weekly training schedule and ensure that all operational activities and academic
classes conducted by Team Leaders designated on the HYCA training schedule are accomplished during the shift.
· Assist Team Leaders in
the performance of their daily duties.
· Ensure that the Standards of Discipline are upheld.
· Keep the HYCA Chain of Command informed of all important matters.
· Ensure that record keeping, including automated data information system, is accomplished in
accordance with the HYCA Standard
Operating Procedures.
· Ensure Cadets are transported between locations such as: formations, physical training, classrooms, community service, dining hall, field trips; and, transport Cadets for medical treatment, as needed.
· Responsible for ensuring that Cadets barracks, common areas and living conditions are properly maintained in accordance with established standards and coordinates all scheduling, housekeeping and administrative activities;
· Ensure the safety of all HYCA personnel and staff members during the shift.
· Analyze and evaluate the progress and development of assigned Cadets and present verbal and written reports.
· Maintains an on-call status to provide counseling assistance and advisement.
PREFERRED COMPETENCIES-KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Work experience, military service experience (E6 and above), teaching or coaching group activities for youth ages 16 -18;
o Or, graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Criminal Justice or a
related field.
· Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required within first 90 days of employment.
· Minimum age of 21.
· First Aid and CPR certification required or ability to obtain such certification.
· Strong leadership, communication, organizational and supervisory skills.
· Strong Knowledge of basic military style training and ability to enforce disciplinary, safety and security measures.
· Ability to work a
flexible schedule.
· Must provide proof of annual tuberculosis test with negative results.
· Must pass an annual physical fitness test.
· Working knowledge of computer programs required for Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Access to navigate through the training
database. Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Word necessary.
· Working knowledge of adolescent development, human behavior and team dynamics.
· Ability to teach adolescents leadership, teamwork, service to community, health, hygiene, physical training, first aid and CPR, and
outdoor skills.
· Ability to read, comprehend and enforce policies, procedures, manuals and other written material and to follow oral and written
instruction.
· Ability to promote socially
acceptable attitudes and behaviors, use tact, recognize that value systems may vary, treat individuals with
respect and consideration, reason logically and arrive at sound conclusions.
· Ability to gain trust and establish effective mentoring relationships with at-risk youth.
· Ability to communicate in
English, explain difficult concepts verbally
and in writing.
· Ability to make sound decisions and remain calm under stressful circumstances.
· Ability to perform work outdoors and withstand inclement weather and other environmental conditions.
· Ability to physically perform the essential duties of the job. This includes conducting and performing rigorous physical fitness training, to include hiking with a backpack over rough terrain, running from one mile up to five miles, and demonstrating a variety of physical fitness exercise routines, such as push ups, sit ups, etc.
· Ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle (44 passenger bus).
· Applicants must take and pass a Diana Screen® which is a sexual risk screening test to protect children. It
is
a computerized test that takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and is administered during the interview process. At

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
Incumbent reports to the Cadre Staff Supervisor and supervises 4-6 Team Leaders.
Difficulty of Work:
The work involves the development of the Operational Support of the Hoosier Youth ChalleNGe Academy and procedures and continuing assessment and implementation of modifications. The established infrastructure within the National Guard system that reaches from
the national to the local level provides program guidance, but it requires broad interpretation, innovation and judgment in application
and implementation.
Responsibility:
Incumbent's assignments are defined in overall objectives, involve the implementation of new programs and procedures, and an assessment and recommendation on whether to change those already established. Major contributions and decisions are made
which have a direct impact on the Cadets and the success of Hoosier Youth Challenge Program.
Personal Work Relationships:
The incumbent works with the Camp Atterbury Staff, military personnel, local and national officials, private organizations, civic groups, and Federal and State agencies for interpreting, developing and implementing the Operations Department of the Hoosier Youth ChalleNGe Academy and resolving disputed issues.
Physical Effort:
Must be physically capable of conducting rigorous physical fitness training, to include hiking with a backpack over rough terrain, running from one mile up to five miles, and performing and demonstrating a variety of exercise routines, such as push ups, sit ups, etc.
A high level of physical fitness is required as demonstrated by passing a physical fitness test. The following is a list of the minimum
standard levels of fitness in
all
evaluated events. This standard is based upon a fifty percent level of the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT):

Working Conditions:
Incumbent may infrequently be exposed to aggressive/hostile at-risk youths and/or upset parents/guardians. May frequently work a
nonstandard work week (which may require rotation between day, evening and graveyard shift, and may include weekends and
holidays). Work is frequently outdoors subject to inclement weather and other environmental conditions.
