STEAM PLANT FIRE TENDER


POSITION: STEAM PLANT FIRE TENDER (10056324, Job ID 570860)
LOCATION: Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, Butlerville, Indiana 47223
SALARY: $10.70 hour; $803.00 Bi-weekly; $20,878 Annually

Muscatatuck Urban Training Center. Work is performed under the direction of the shift operator. Duties include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following: Operates heavy equipment such as dump trucks, front-end loaders, elevators, and conveyors to maintain a steady supply of coal to the boilers; Measures and records amount of coal supplied to each boiler; Utilizes ash pulling equipment to remove waste ash from the boilers; Assists shift operator in monitoring gauges and equipment to ensure conditions are normal, operating within appropriate safety standards, and ensuring maximum efficiency; Performs minor maintenance on coal and ash handing equipment and assists in periodic overhauls, cleaning, major repairs; and installation and repair of steam lines; Cleans boilers, equipment and areas of plant as assigned; Performs grounds maintenance of the training site to include mowing and snow removal; Assists in building maintenance throughout the training site to include minor and emergency repairs of plumbing, electrical, etc; Complies with all appropriate protective and safety requirements in the performance of duties including, but not limited to: use of personal protective equipment (PPE); handling, storage & mixing of hazardous materials according to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS); confined spaces; and complying with safety requirements in the use of tools, equipment, etc; Maintains compliance with all personnel rules, policies and procedures including, but not limited to: affirmative action, sexual harassment and discrimination, drug & alcohol free workplace, dress code and ethics; Performs related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent with some experience maintenance or operation of boilers or heavy equipment; Ability to operate heavy equipment; Working knowledge of and ability to assist in all phases of steam plant operation, maintenance and repair; Working knowledge of all health, safety and sanitary procedures for the safety of personnel and equipment; Ability to respond effectively and quickly to emergency situation; Basic knowledge of and ability to use skills in the trades of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc; Must have and maintain a valid Indiana Driver’s License.
OTHER INFORMATION: Incumbent may be required on occasion to work irregular shifts, days, nights, weekends and/or holidays, or a rotating schedule. Work is performed in a simulated urban warfare training environment. All personnel are required to wear military MILES or other designated specialized equipment upon entry onto and in the performance of duties within the boundaries of the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center. Incumbents are components of the simulated urban warfare, terrorist or homeland security training operations and are expected to participate in the simulated training as required
